What is Remove Page Numbers?

Page numbers added by a previous tool or embedded in an older document can interfere with re-paginating, merging, or re-distributing a document. PDFStream scans the text layer of each page and detects short numeric text (e.g. "1", "Page 3", "12 / 40") sitting in the top or bottom margin, then covers each detected number with a precisely placed white box. The tool only detects text that visually looks like a page number by pattern and position — it does not read document structure or metadata. Numbers that do not match the pattern, or page numbers baked into a scanned image, will not be detected. Detected numbers are highlighted on the preview before you apply the change, so you can confirm what will be covered. Use cases: removing old page numbers before re-paginating a revised document, cleaning up page footers before merging two documents into a unified sequence, or stripping page numbers added by a previous tool before re-processing.
